LINCOLN (KPTM)- Lincoln Police and Lancaster County Sheriff's officials say it's a string of drug busts like they've never seen.

During the past two weeks, authorities have conducted at least ten raids on Lancaster County homes, and brought in more than 6,500 marijuana, growing plants.

"In larger cities, it may have gone on longer. It's hard to say," said Sgt. William Koepke. "You read the blogs about us wasting our time. This affects every one of us."

The 18-year police force veteran says they believe the busts are related.

He says some of the homes are stealing electricity as a way to keep their growing operations running all the time.

Police estimate one plant alone can generate more than $1,500 annually in drug money. All said and done, police could have cost the growers around $10 million.

More raids could be on the way too.

"Profit. It all boils down to money," said Koepke.

Six people have been arrested so far, including two Canadians.
