Teens Arrested for Dogfighting; Mothers Arrested For Child Neglect

Omaha (KPTM) - Three teenage boys are accused of running a dog fight in their front yard Thursday night.

As of Friday morning, their mothers also found themselves behind bars for child neglect.

The Omaha Police Department says that the three teens were arrested for promoting dog fighting after several neighbors reported dog fights going on at a home near 40th and Cuming Street.

Investigators say they found two injured pit bulls and two others in the basement.

Investigators also say they found evidence of dog fighting, including break sticks used to pry open the dogs' mouths and Tabasco sauce, which they say was poured on the dogs' faces during the fight.

Police say they found dog feces throughout the house. The boys' mothers, 33 year-old Andrea Humphrey and 37 year-old Demetria Henderson were arrested for child neglect.

One neighbor said she's surprised the dogs were involved.

"They seemed pretty friendly my kids pet them all the time one snapped at my daughter once just for over excitement but he didn't bite her or anything," said Silvia Lee-Rugier.

The boys, ages 14, 17 and 19, face a class-four felony dog fighting charge.

Investigators call it a "classic dog fight," taking place in the open where most dog fights happen.

"Nothing amazes me anymore.  We've got reports of people doing this in their front yards and no ones calling about the dog fights.  Finally, someone stepped up to the plate and called us about this dog fight. Now we've made three arrests, we'll pay the reward," said Mark Langan of the Nebraska Humane Society.

Police are still looking for a fourth suspect and a fifth dog.

If you have any information about this case or any other dog fight, call the Nebraska  Humane Society at 444-7800.

There is a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
