Omaha (KPTM) - He was either the guy who stole the hearts of America or the guy you love to hate.

We saw Chris Bernheisel get kicked of the American Idol Omaha auditions Tuesday night. What's his life like now 24 hours after the show? He says it's been a whirlwind. Twenty four hours have passed and believe it or not it's plenty of time for big things to happen. And while many are still pursing their 15 minutes of fame, all Chris needed was eight minutes and 13 seconds. Camera in hand, Chris recorded and savored every second of his American Idol debut.

Nearly in tears, his family and friends cheered him on at a "watching party" at Barretts.

"We weren't expecting him to be the first gig of the show," says Chris's Field Club boss, Kevin Kennedy.

"There are 40-50 million American's that know my name now which is exciting," says Chris.

The 25-year-old rising star led the show's Omaha auditions. He got eight minutes and 13 seconds of airtime. "This is everything that I wanted and it was so crazy," says Chris.

"That's Chris in a nutshell, that's him. I've never seen him down," describes Kennedy.

Aside from the 45 minutes of sleep last night, it's been nonstop not only for Chris but his family too.

"Poor Grams, she had to take the phone off the hook because she couldn't handle it. She was so confused. She said I love you but I'm going to have a nervous breakdown," explains Chris.

He was up at five this morning relishing his new found fame. He made radio station appearances starting in New York.

"I did Miami, South Beach, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, Pennsylvania, Pittsburg, Chicago, Chicago and Minneapolis."

And just when Chris didn't think things could get any better, TV Guide called, and will fly him out next week for a gig.

"Friday morning I'm going to be filming Idol wrap with Justin Guarini and Kimberly Caldwell, they're past Idol contestants and we're just going to talk about AI next week and stuff about auditions and everything. I can't believe they chose me and it's crazy." TV Guide will be flying him out next Thursday to tape the Idol wrap.
