OMAHA (KPTM) - The Lexington teacher accused of having sex with a 13-year-old student and taking him to Mexico has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

Kelsey Peterson plead guilty to having sex with a minor in exchange for a sentence of about 6-7 years in prison.

Peterson engaged in a relationship with a 13-year-old former student at the Lexington school where she taught.

Attorney Amy Peck, who represents the boy and his family, says they're ready for the case to be over.

Peterson and the boy left Lexington in October and were found a week later in Mexicali, Mexico.

The guilty plea doesn't mean Peterson is off the hook on state charges, which include kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault.
