OMAHA (KPTM) - A hazmat situation at Offutt Air Force Base put a squad from Bellevue on standby this afternoon.
Offutt officials say a commissary employee was exposed to "a minor amount of methyl methacrylate monomer."
The exposure occurred within a commercial delivery truck at the loading docks of the commissary on base.
MMM is a toxic liquid which may cause inhalation issues, Offutt says.
Also from Offutt:
The minor exposure is confined well within a protective area of 150 feet, on government property and poses no immediate threat to human health, wildlife or fish.
Damage is expected to be minimal. There is no public hazard.
To facilitate clean-up operations in the area, spectators are requested to stay away from the scene of the spill. The base command post, local emergency services, law enforcement and environmental protection agencies have been notified.
A team of Air Force experts has been sent to the scene to control and abate the spilled material.
