Lancaster Deputy Shoots, Kills Pit Bull

Posted: Updated:

SPRAGUE (AP) - A Lancaster County sheriff has shot and killed a pit bull he says charged at him.

Sheriff Terry Wagner says the shooting happened earlier this week in Sprague after a man called the sheriff's office to report he had been chased by a loose dog. Wagner says several witnesses later reported seeing the dog running through downtown Sprague.

A sheriff's report says that once the deputy arrived, he tried to contact the dog's owner. The deputy says the pit bull then charged him, and he shot the dog.

Authorities say it was the eighth call the sheriff's office had received about the dog being loose.

Authorities are looking for 31-year-old Mandy Struebing, who owns the dog and is charged in an arrest warrant with having a dog at large.
