OMAHA (KPTM)- Local non-profits partnered with Old Chicago this Easter to make sure all Omahans had a warm Easter dinner.

Non profits involved include the Siena Francis House, Stephens Center, Micah House, Open Door Mission, The Shelter, the Salvation Army, Safe Haven Community Center and Catholic Charities.

Craig Cowell, one food recipient said, "I've had a smile on my face all morning, and once I got in here and got some good food it just got ten times better, I've been bubbly ever since"

Old Chicago fund raises year round to provide nearly 1,000 homeless children and families with a baked chicken meal, Easter basket gifts, pictures with the Easter bunny, and toiletries, warm clothes, and healthy snacks to take home.

One non-profit volunteer Faith Daley said, "We take for granted spending the holidays with your family so its nice to have families come in, they can have a nice meal."

Organizers with Old Chicago explain this is something they have been doing for 12 years, "Everybody does something on Christmas, everybody does something on Thanksgiving, so Easter was the holiday we targeted, and we just wanted to something for people that were less fortunate and maybe didn't have a place to get a hot meal."

Food recipient Sharon Velez said "It enhances my Easter because it really profound the reason of why Christ was resurrected so we could have this communion with people and just come together and just praise him"

Organizers say they "hope that we make the day a little bit brighter for some folks, were not going to eliminate anybody's problems but we hope we can make the day a little bit brighter."
