Occupy Omaha Vows to Keep Protesting

OMAHA (KPTM)--Activists inspired by the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations vowed to continue round-the-clock protests in Omaha.

The problem is---Occupy Omaha activists admit they are having a tough time working out the logistics to make that possible.

And because they have no leader, they are struggling trying to get a coherent message out to the news media.

"We know you guys are a lot of mixed messages from occupy Omaha. We're making an effort to change that," said David Loyall, activist.

Political expert Paul Landow said the movement, similar to the progressive movement in the late 1800's, is born out of people's frustration with the economy and the establishment.

And it likely won't last long.

Landow said the Occupy Omaha movement will likely end up a blip in the history books.

About one dozen Occupy Omaha activists were at the city council meeting today. One of their members asked city council to consider issuing the group a permit to protest in Elmwood Park but that activist was not speaking for the group. That person asked council to drop the request from the council agenda.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has spread to cities throughout the United States. Similar demonstrations have been taking place overseas as well.

Demonstrators are protesting the influence of corporations on government policy and the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

Occupy Omaha activists plan to have a general assembly meeting at 7 p.m. , Nov. 16, at 24th and Farnam St.
