Hard Farewell; Soldier Headed Back to Afghanistan

OMAHA (KPTM) - Only a few weeks ago, soldiers returned from Afghanistan for the holidays. On Sunday they headed back to the fight. Families had a hard time saying good-bye to their soldiers, like Specialist Tyler Clark.

"It feels good, especially when you walk through the airport and everyone starts clapping. It kind of makes you feel proud doing what you do," Clark said.

On Veterans Day, Clark returned home from Afghanistan. He wanted to spend time with his family for Thanksgiving.

"I just hung out with my friends and family, catch up on old times," he said.

For Clark's mom, Kristin Cavalieri, the two weeks he was home flew by.

"Excitement, I couldn't wait to see him, I was just happy," Cavalieri said.

The whole family gathered to see him off. Clark headed back to a small town in Afghanistan to finish his duty.

"Seems like we are so far ahead in time then they are technology wise. They are still living in mud huts and stuff like that. It is pretty interesting to see a different culture," Clark said.

Clark doesn't second guess becoming a soldier. He believes his time has been well spent protecting our freedom.

"I am glad I did, it is a good experience," he said.

Before Clark left on Sunday his family said their final good-byes.

It was a tough farewell for everyone, including his little sister.

Clark's tour in Afghanistan ends in March.
