OMAHA (KPTM)-
A shooting Tuesday night claimed the life of 30-year-old Lynell Green.
Police say Green was inside a home near 33rd and Larimore streets when the shooter broke into the home and opened fire.
Neighbors say Green's mother lives in the home.
Friends of Green say he was an athlete, a barber, and a father. One of his friends, Allisha Nunn said, "I don't know who would do this to a person who doesn't do anything to anybody, you know? He was like the nicest man. If you'd ask for anything he'd help you."
Shelby Pickens works with community group Enough is Enough. He said he can't imagine why Green would be a target, but suspects it could have something to do with greed during the Christmas season. Pickens continued, "The only thing I can see is people being jealous, they see a young man with nice things, and they don't have the nice things."
Green used to play basketball at his neighbor Ron Dotzler's home. Dotzler is a pastor, and founded the Abide Network, a church-based community group. Dotzler, who lives in the heart of the neighborhood, said it used to be one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in north Omaha. He says because of the work his group, and other community groups have done to clean up the neighborhood, it had been peaceful the last few years.
This recent outbreak ion violence, Dotzler said, is like a slap in the face. He continued, " It does get discouraging at times but there's a lot of people to encourage us. We've made progress and just have to stay at it.
As these community groups expect the violence to continue through the end of the year, they simply hope it wont tear apart any more families during the holidays.
