Kerrey Considering Another Senate Run

OMAHA (KPTM)-- Former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey is thinking about running again for the Senate.

Political insiders say such a move would be a game-changer.

"By no means does this mean that he's going to be the front runner or a shoo-in but it certainly means he will be competitive regardless of who is the GOP nominee," said Paul Landow, UNO Political Science Professor.

And even though Kerrey has said it will be weeks before he makes a decision, the GOP has already started slamming Kerrey. The National Republican Senatorial Committee issued a release today blasting Kerrey for supporting healthcare reform.

"Now we have a mission and now we are excited about that," said Scott Petersen, Chairman of the Douglas County Republicans.

On the GOP slate so far, Attorney General Jon Bruning, Treasurer Don Stenberg, State Sen. Deb Fischer and Pat Flynn are running in their party's primary.

Democrats have not yet found a candidate to replace Ben Nelson who decided last month he was not going to seek a third term.

The filing deadline is March 1.
