The city of Ralston and it's fire department awarded Kim Hawkinson with The American Police Hall of Fame Life Saving Award.

Hawkinson helped 81-year old Mary Lou Smith get out of her home when it caught fire after she was baking cookies last December.

Hawkinson remains humble about the event.  "I didn't break through the door I just went through it um. I just saw the fire I didn't even think I just walked through and I got her out. I didn't expect any of this attention, it's very humbling."

Smith is forever grateful. She explained "I'm just really happy because Kim and I have been good friends for a long time, way before my husband died, and she's just been so friendly and everything."

The fire caused nearly $60,000 worth of damage.

Smith says she is, however, still baking.

Now every neighborhood seems to want Hawkinson delivering the mail.

As far as her award, her family is taking pictures with it. She will put it somewhere special in her home.
