OMAHA (KPTM)- Omaha police say 7-year-old Miracle Barnett was shot Wednesday morning.

Officers say several witnesses called police just before 8:00 after hearing several gunshots.

Miracle's family told Fox 42 News that he was leaving his aunt's house to go home and get ready for school. After Miracle and his aunt, plus a 5-year-old was inside the car another vehicle pulled up behind them and blocked them in. The family said the windows rolled down and bullets started to fly.

Miracle's guardian, Nancy Simonet, said, "The bullets flying up, out and through the seats and in the door frame, and the handle of the door. It went everywhere."

Miracle had a bullet wound in his leg, while his aunt, Debra Taylor, was also shot.

Both weren't seriously injured.

The family told Fox 42 that the shootings need to stop when a 7-year-old is being shot at and wounded by bullets.

"The killing and stuff I don't really see anything really breaking down. Ya'll scared about that. No, we need to come together if it takes us adults and the police and everything we need to come together and do something I really do feel like that, it takes us, us adults to get these kids to do anything," said Simonet.

This was Omaha's 23 shooting in 2012.

Omaha police are still investigating this shooting. They are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP.
