KPTM (Omaha) - Every single plant was stolen from the Community Garden in the Sherman Community Center over the Memorial weekend.

Community Garden Director says that everything was fine when she left the Friday before.

"it's more disappointing because we are in a low income area and the kids come out and work their little hearts out, they will weed they help plant and it's more for them," says Joyce Bayly, Community Garden Director.

What's even worse is that the entire garden was planted by children in the area.  Bayly says that telling the kids was the worst part.

"How sad of a person are you?  Why would you take away from children," adds Bayly.

City officials say that the Community Garden got started last year as part of a grant program from the state.

"a lot of the stuff they grew last year they got to take home or they made it and prepared it here and just giving the kids a sense of taking care of a garden," said Brook Bench, Omaha Parks Department.

Bayly says that they will begin re-planting the garden and that any donations would be greatly appreciated.

If you would like to donate any plants you can drop them off at the Sherman Community Center on 16th and Arthur C Storz Expy.  The Community Center is open from noon to three the rest of this week and will be open from 10am to 4pm starting next week.
