OMAHA(KPTM)-- Douglas County Election Commissioner says a plan is in the works to open up about 30 precincts and 27 polling locations.
He voiced the plan and how he came to that decision in front of a room of people Monday night.
Several Latino groups and community leaders initially organized the meeting when Phipps said he wouldn't hold any public meetings on his controversial move earlier this year.
Eventually he did change his mind.
Phipps hit controversy when he closed nearly half the county's polling locations. Many of the closures were in North and South Omaha.
He admitted to making a mistake in not getting public opinions before closing any sites down, but some people at the meeting said it was too little, too late; however, they did thank him for admitting to the mistake.
Phipps says the election office is close to finishing up the changes the office has been working on.
The proposed changes are scheduled to be made public next week. Everyone will have a chance to provide their opinions either by mail or on the election commissioner's web site.
