COUNCIL BLUFFS (KPTM) -At just 7-weeks old, Ida, a 1 pound 4 ounce kitten has gone through a lot.
She was found in a dumpster near 8th street and 2nd avenue in Council Bluffs, with her eye bulging out of it's socket.
Council Bluffs Animal Shelter officials say a man was digging through the dumpster, looking for cans to recycle when he found the kitten in a bag.
Christopher Higginbotham called animal control. Now, Ida is at the Council Bluffs Animal Shelter waiting for a good home.
Mary Jones heads up SOLAS, an organization that helps the local animal shelter. SOLAS has paid for Ida's surgery to remove her eye.
"I truly believe that if animals ran the world they would treat the humans a lot better than some of the humans treat them," said Jones.
She says animal abuse cases are becoming too common. In just the last year, for example, a man high on meth dropped his cat out of his 7th floor apartment, which died.
"We had an incident where 6 cats were put in a Rubber Made container with a lid on it and left on the corner in the hot sun," explained Jones.
Jones says she'll never understand why people do this. "Think! Would you want to be put in a Rubber Made container with a lid on? No," argued Jones.
Ida is currently in Foster Care with one of the animal control officers.
Jones says anyone wanting to help SOLAS or adopt Ida can contact the organization by email at solas@cox.net and leave a number.
Refer to Ida with her SOLAS rescue number, 1590.
She will be up for adoption in about 2 weeks after she gets a check up on her eye.
Officials do not know who is responsible for dumping Ida in the dumpster.
