OMAHA (KPTM) – It has been hot the last couple of days and tomorrow won't be any different. There will be near 100-degree temperatures and people who will be at the Bank of the West Celebrate America concert need to be careful.
The concert at Memorial Park will feature Huey Lewis and The News tomorrow night. The concert starts at 6:00 PM and Huey Lewis and The News will take the stage after 8:00 PM. There will be fireworks starting at 10:00 PM.
While concert officials are saying tomorrow night will be a fun concert, they are also warning people to take precautions when it comes to the heat.
Officials tell Fox 42 to come early Friday morning and set up your blankets and then return at night; that way you avoid the hot parts of the day. They also tell us you can bring coolers and even umbrellas. They only ask you put the umbrellas away once the concert starts. Metropolitan Utility District will have a free watering truck to help keep people hydrated and cool.
Shelly Geiser, who owns the Dippin' Dots stands at the concert said she is looking forward to the concert, but not the heat.
"I will take a lot of breaks and drink a lot of water, sports drinks and things like that," she said.
Event officials also said they are hoping concert goers carpool to the concert. They said parking spots are limited to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the east side of the streets of the neighborhood around the park.
Streets north of Underwood Avenue to Western Avenue from Happy Hallow to 66th Street and streets from Western Avenue north to Hamilton Street from 54th Street to 58th Street will be one way.
