K9 Units Fight More than Crime

OMAHA (KPTM)- High temperatures have been unbearable at times for Police dogs.

Earlier Monday morning, one OPD dog was hosed down and another K9 Unit called in from Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

"Today, Omaha called up and said send a county dog in," said Deputy Andy Woodward.

Woodward said the heat has been an issue. "The one thing that will really slow our dogs down is the heat."

Woodward said it's up to K9 handlers to know when the dog is too hot. "All of us have had our dogs for a couple of years, so we know when our dog is getting over heated or getting tired."
