OMAHA (KPTM) – Robtert Griffith had a nice drive off of the number 10-tee box at the Omaha Country Club. He finished the par-5 hole in six shots. Not bad for a 19-year-old who has been playing golf for 10 years.
What Griffith did in six shots, most professionals can do in four or less. And pros on the USGA Senior Tour will be able to try birdie hole 10 July 2013.
"It just blows my mind that they will be able to make it in four," Griffith said.
Griffith is excited for July 2013 because the USGA will be hosting the US Senior Open at the Omaha Country Club. Griffith a caddie for the clubhouse can't wait for the pros to play where he plays.
"You are getting ready to putt and you will see on TV maybe the guys is going to have the same putt and you will miss the putt and you will see them make a good read," Griffith said.
The USGA has been spending the last two years getting ready for this event. Liz Leckemby and a few others were in Michigan this weekend for the 2012 US Senior Open. Leckemby tells Fox 42 News they spoke with a lot of the vendors, studied the tent layout and much more.
"When they walk through the gates you are at an amazing championship, there will be a grand entry way that will be spectacular and I think everyone will realize they have arrived at a major championship and that these are the best golfers in the world."
Leckemby is hoping the championship is able to bring 50 million dollars to the Omaha Economy.
"We fully suspect it to be the most successful Senior Open of all time," she said.
Although, Griffith is just excited to meet his favorite player, Tom Watson, he may even ask for his autograph.
"I don't know if I want to search him out and let him do his thing," Griffith said.
