OMAHA (KPTM)- A fire ripped through an apartment complex Monday afternoon causing neighbors to evacuate.

Omaha Fire Department responded to a call about a fire on the north side of Beacon Hill Apartments off North 90th Street and Maplewood Blvd. When they arrived, Battalion Chief Matt Carmichael said he saw flames coming outside one unit before an explosion.

He believed the fire started outside then moved inside, but said he will not know the exact cause until they are through with the investigation.

No one was hurt, but people living in the neighboring units had to evacuate.

"It's the first time I've ever seen a fire like that myself so—definitely a pretty exciting thing to see happen. You don't really know what to think at first," said Cody Amend who had to evacuate.

Two apartments were destroyed. Four others had water damage.
