Fugitive on the Run Spotted in Omaha

OMAHA (KPTM)- A man wanted for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Bellevue girl is on the loose in Omaha.

 The Fugitive Task Force in Bellevue is looking for 32-year-old Oscar Antonio Menjivar Herrera.  

Menjivar-Herrera was arrested on June 25 in Bonita, Florida after being charged with 1^st-degree sexual assault in Sarpy County. "The fugitive task force, we were able to locate him in Bonita springs where he was taken into custody," said Det.Tim Flohrschutz.

 Flohrschutz said, as Menjivar-Herrera was en route to Nebraska, he escaped from the transport van. "One of the guards was sleeping while the other guard went into the gas station and, our fugitive was able to pick his handcuffs, and slip out the back door since it wasn't locked from the inside."

 Flohrschutz said police had been looking Menjivar-Herrera for weeks.  He said they didn't know he was in Omaha until he was spotted near 10^th and Martha Sunday, August 7^th, and 10 PM.

 Flohrschutz said police had received calls from neighbors that said a man was knocking door-to-door, asking for water, food, and a cell phone. "Other than the clothes on his back, he doesn't have anything," said Flohrschutz.

 Menjivar-Herrera may not have extra clothing, but Flohrschutz said he believes he has a plan. "We've received reports that he's asked several people to take him to Mexico. So he's definitely trying to flee the country to escape these charges."

 Police describe Menjivar-Herrara as 5'5 male, 140 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes.
