OMAHA (KPTM)-

Police say a man shot near 42nd and Maple streets died from his injuries.

21-year old Brandon Thomas of Omaha was found suffering from a gun shot wound near a fence in the area just after 4pm Wednesday.

He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Neighbors in the area tell us they heard anywhere up to 12 gun shots, which is unusual to them in that area.

Neighbor Fronzell Holmes said "I lived here for 5 years, a little bit longer. Never had any issues. My street is usually and always quiet. This in and of itself kind of surprises me. I have children, I've never had any fear for my safety at any point. Just shows you that you might only live a few houses away, from you know, trouble."

On Thursday, the mayors gun safety task force will be announcing recommendations to tackle gun violence in the city.
