OMAHA (KPTM)- AT&T officials announced Thursday that they have flipped on the switch for a faster mobile network for smartphone users.
The 4G LTE network offers Internet and upload speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G networks.
AT&T invested $16 million into the Nebraska wired and wireless networks.
Officials say the LTE speed will be accessible in Omaha. Outside of Omaha, mobile phone users should still be able to access the 4G network, which they say is something other wireless carriers can not always offer.
AT&T Vice President and General Manager for Nebraska and The Northern Plains, Hardmon Williams, explained, ""I think the neat thing for consumers is that they'll be able to have a really fast experience, great devices, and as we start to introduce tablets and things of that nature, they'll have the opportunity to use this great network."
Not all smartphones are equipped to use the 4G LTE network. The following AT&T phones and tablets are compatible:
- The Motorola ATRIX HD
- The Sony Xperia ion
- The HTC ONE X
- Samsung Focus 2
- Nokia Lumia 900
- Samsung Galaxy Note
- Pantech Element Tablet
You can also visit a local AT&T store to learn about compatible phones and tablets.
