OMAHA (KPTM) - The Douglas County Board voted Tuesday morning to approve $5 million be given to help fund a proposed UNMC cancer center.
The vote means that $500,000 per year for the next ten years will be taken from Douglas County's inheritance tax revenue.
Most of the board was on board with the vote, but there was some opposition. Board Member Clare Duda voted against the move, saying the County is broke.
The State of Nebraska has already pledged to give about $50 million to the project, and the Omaha City Council could vote on raising cigarette taxes to contribute to the project.
