State Senator Council Accused of Using Campaign Funds at Casinos

LINCOLN (KPTM)- Nebraska State Senator Brenda Council who is running for reelection in November is facing misdemeanor charges .

The charges deal with campaign finance violations and abuse of public accounts.

She is accused of improperly using more than $63,000 in campaign funds at casinos. $25,900 wasn't paid back according to Bruning.  Bruning said they found a problem with the campapign funds dating back to 2010. Bruning said Council banned herself from the casinos in 2005.

Council is expected to plead guilty to the charges on Tuesday in Lancaster County. She has been asked to wirthdraw from running in the state senate race.

Council is running against former State Senator Ernie Chambers in District 11.

Officials say Council has agreed to seek treatment for her gambling problem.
