LINCOLN (KPTM)- The Huskers met their new athletic director, Shawn Eichorst Tuesday. He will replace legend Tom Osborne in January. Osborne said it's time.
"When you're 75, there's always a doubt as to how much longer is this guy going to be there and so doubt and uncertainty is the enemy of progress. So at some point I knew that I had to eliminate that doubt and so that's what we're doing at this point and now you've got a guy obviously that's got another 20 to 30 years in him and so you don't have to worry about that anymore," Osborne said.
Over the next two months Eichorst will learn all he can from Osborne.
"For me it is an opportunity for me to take a deep breath, and not on a shot clock or a play clock, I can just kind of see things play out. A lot of looking, listening and learning from a legend."
Being the athletic director means having to work with 23 different sports including the football team. Eichorst said he looks forward to working with coach Bo Pelini.
"I have great admiration, and a lot of folks that I trust and respect have good things to say about Bo Pelini. He's a winner. He's won everywhere he's been. I look forward to working with him."
Until Eichorst takes over for Osborne - he says he plans to immerse himself in everything Nebraska.
