OMAHA (KPTM) A north Omaha teenager shot and killed overnight. And three other victims wounded after bullets spray a peaceful community.
"A bullet could've easily come through and hit any of us."
Just before 3:30 Sunday morning gunfire erupts near 21st and Locust killing 16 year old Montrell Wiseman. Neighbor Tiffany White says, "it's surreal, it's just, I don't know, you don't expect it to happen right next door to you. You don't. And when it does it's just really sad that people have to resort to shooting people over I'm sure nothing."
One hour earlier, two other victims were wounded near 33rd and Hamilton after shots were fired in that neighborhood as well. Residents in the area say the violence has to stop. Bishop John Mitchell says, "this is unnormal, that is not natural what's going on. I believe it's a judgment upon us because of neglect now and through the years of children and they need a fear of god, they need a fear of god and seems like to me that have no fear of taking a human life anymore but this is something we have to work with and get them to understand that life is precious."
Neighbor David Gregory says, "it's rough out here and it don't make no sense." "We are part of it and we're here praying. They ask me about being fearful, I'm not fearful at all because we're covered by God. We're needed here and the work is uh, we're in the middle of it and so God placed us here for a reason," Bishop Mitchell says.
A neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous says, "I feel like we as a community, we have to come together and try to guide our youth in a different direction and try to teach them how to be more responsible in order to be able to go out and even just have a good time, because even just having a good time nowadays is deadly."
