OMAHA (KPTM) – Omaha Police Department announced Tuesday they have arrested three people in connection with a murder that happened near a nightclub in west Omaha. Two of the suspects were basketball players at Bellevue University.

Avery Tyler, 24, faces first-degree murder and felony weapon charges. Romesha Fountain, 28 and JeLani Johnson, 22 face charges as accessories to a felon.

None of them has a criminal history.

Police said 24-year-old Delayno Wright was shot after he left the Halo Ultra Lounge near 175th Street and West Center Road on September 3rd.

KPTM talked exclusively with Wright's family after he was killed. They were devastated and confused about why someone would want him dead.

Two of the suspects, Tyler and Johnson played basketball for Bellevue University.

Tyler was a prominent player who earned several titles during his three years on the team.

During that time he was named Scholar Athlete, Newcomer of the Year, Player of the Week, Honorary Captain and Bellevue University Male Athlete of the Year.

Tyler was also Student Speaker at his commencement this past spring. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

One of the suspects, Avery Tyler, was a prominent basketball player at Bellevue University.

A few people who know Tyler are shocked by his arrest because, they say, he always played strictly by the rules.

Tyler, Johnson and Fountain are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
