OMAHA (KPTM) - The University of Nebraska at Omaha is one step closer to a new arena.
The UNO Board of Regents voted Friday to authorize President J.B. Milliken to sign a letter of intent with developers to work on the $76 million arena near Aksarben.
The proposed arena would seat 7,500.
UNO athletic director Trev Alberts says he's excited about the regents' support for an on-campus home for UNO's hockey team and eventually men's and women's basketball and volleyball. "We are extremely excited and think it's going to ultimately be transformational," Alberts says, "but we also know this is just the first step, we have a lot of work in front of us."
The current proposal calls for a privately constructed and privately financed arena that would be acquired by the university though a lease-purchase agreement.
