OMAHA (KPTM) – A convenient store was robbed over the weekend. Police said shots fired inside while it took place were not at people, but something else and it is unclear why. An employee who was there when it happened has his own guess.
Mukhammad Mirzoev takes life easy. The unexpected doesn't shake him up much—not even when he was robbed at gunpoint this past weekend.
"I wasn't scared for myself. I was scared for my colleague because she's a woman," Mirzoev said.
He and another employee were working late at the Tobacco and Phones For Less store on California and Saddle Creek streets Saturday night when two men came in and demanded money. Mirzoev said he and his colleague emptied two registers.
"[They] grabbed the money on the floor and took the money and gone."
But before the suspects left, one of the guys fired his gun—at the floor.
Employees said they don't know where exactly the shots were fired or whether they ricocheted from the ceiling to the floor or vice versa because it happened so fast.
"The door [was] closed and I don't know maybe they wanted us to be scared or something when they shot and ran," Mirzoev said.
Mirzoev believes the robbers got frustrated because one of the doors was locked when the two tried to run out. When they did get out, police said they ran north.
While Mirzoev is not pleased about this robbery, he said he is glad he can continue working, living life and taking it easy.
