Omaha's Official Christmas Tree Makes Its Way To Durham Museum

Posted: Updated:

It's a sight you only see once a year—a gigantic Christmas tree being carried down Dodge Street. "Omaha's Official Christmas Tree" made its journey from an Omaha couple's home to its own spotlight in the Durham Museum Monday morning.

"I tried it two years ago and they said it was too small. This year they said it might be a little bit too big," Don Norskov the tree's owner said.

But it turned out to be the perfect tree for Omaha to call its own—so the tree was cut. Then, the nearly 40-foot-tall, 30-year-old green giant was loaded on the back of a flatbed and taken to the Durham Museum.

"It's such an honor to be chosen to be down at the Durham Museum," said Phyllis Norskov who also owns the tree.

It was a bit of bittersweet parting for the couple—the tree was there when they purchased the house in 1990. But it just got too big.

"It was going to have to go, sooner or later. We're going to replace it with a Maple tree."

The tree made its way down dodge. And after a little readjusting and some prodding through the Durham's doors.

The tree will be lit the after Thanksgiving in the Durham's Union Hall.
