OMAHA (KPTM) – Jackie Herrin lost her brother to suicide when she was 10 years old. Now as a student at Bellevue East she wants to help bring awareness to this taboo topic.
"To lose a family member or friend to death, to any sort of death is a tragedy but to lose someone to suicide is a travesty," she said.
Working with Bellevue East High School, Jackie has put together a presentation on suicide. Thursday she made her final presentation to the senior class.
"From what I have been told it has helped some people a few of the students, they have come up to me and have said thank you," she said.
Other school officials in the Omaha metro have been examining the idea of bringing Jackie to their school, something Jackie hopes happens.
"It just needs to be talked about, I just want them to know that there is hope out there, that there is hope for you and that you need help yourself," she said.
