OMAHA (KPTM)- A hit-and-run victim's family's search for justice, leads them to donations for charities all over the Omaha area.

It's been 1100 days, and counting, since 27-year-old Ronnie Rydberg was hit by a car and killed.

"It was the hardest thing I had to go through," said Rydberg's cousin, Kurt Dworak.

The Rydberg family said, two illegal immigrants, Ramon and Vicente Chavez, killed him.

Both were in the car that hit Rydberg and have been on the run ever since.

"You want his life to mean something," said family friend, Miranda Engelkamp.

Rydberg was hit and killed in his car near 42nd and Q on October 26th three years ago.

Family members said, they haven't spent these past years focusing on the tragedy of his death, but rather celebrating the triumph of his life.

"Doing this once a year, maybe, clears all that other frustration out," said Dworak.

Frustration was out the door as dozens of boxes were filled up with donations collected by all the Rydberg family and friends.

"Why not turn his death into a positive thing?" said Engelkamp.

That's exactly what the Rydberg family did.  Three truckloads of donations, everything from winter coats to baby food, were delivered Sunday to charities all over Omaha.

Everything was collected and donated in Rydberg's honor.

"He'd be like, really guys, for me?" laughed Engelkamp.

"There's no reason to keep a negative attitude, it's just like a waste of life," said Dworak.

1100 days, hundreds of donations, and one family, counting on getting justice, no matter how long, for Rydberg.
