The cousin of a man shot by police earlier this week opened up to FOX 42 about his frustration with the situation.

"It hurt me a little bit, because the person I know wouldn't have done something like that," Kunzman said.

Kunzman's cousin, Tyree Bell, was shot and killed by police Tuesday near 42nd and Pratt. Police say Bell made suicidal threats and pointed a gun at officers multiple times. Meanwhile, he was using his 3-year-old son to shield himself from police.

"We entered into his life at the worst possible moment," said Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer.

"I just think he made a bad choice at the wrong time," Kunzman said.

Kunzman says he is frustrated because the sawed off shot gun was not loaded. "And the other one was a pellet gun so nobody was in real danger after all."

Police say they acted in defense. "We still have to treat that like being loaded. Mr. Bell entered into that house, exited that house, pointed that weapon at officers numerous times and by watching the [dash camera], seeing that situation, there could be no one around that could assume that gun was not loaded.

Kunzman says now he's dealing with his loss. "It hit me kind of hard because I haven't seen him in quite a while, so just to see him on the news and to know the next time I will see him will be at his funeral."

The officers who shot and killed bell are on paid leave. The investigation is ongoing.
