OMAHA (KPTM)- A big boost for some Nebraska state parks, that's at least what Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, wants.
That's why he announced in a press conference Thursday, he wants to set aside $1.7 million dollars of the 2013-2015 budget to upgrade Mahoney State Park and Lake McConaughy.
For McConaughy, the money would be used to improve campgrounds. Some upgrades would include water and sewage hook-ups, electrical sites, and new equestrian accommodations.
One million dollars of the money would be spent on 3 six-bedroom cabins for Mahoney State Park. Nebraska Game and Parks official, Greg Wagner, said these will be almost like mini-lodges. "There is tremendous demand."
If the budget is approved, Wagner said construction for the new cabins could begin as early as summer 2013.
