OMAHA (KPTM)- Bronze ups were stolen off a family plot in a local cemetery, and now the family has a message for those thieves.
"It's a pretty sacred for us right here," said Patrick Blimling.
Blimling's family members are all buried at Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha. He works hard to keep his father's grave clean. "Cigar, he was always smoking a cigar," remembered Blimling.
There's not even a headstone yet for Blimling's aunt. When she was buried last week, family members noticed a couple of things were missing.
"This is what they stole," said Blimling while holding a bronze cup.
"Stealing from the dead, stealing from sacred ground," said Blimling. "I was disgusted. It was a terrible feeling. I just don't know who would do anything like this."
Blimling said other graves in the cemetery have been hit, but Westlawn has been nothing but accommodating. Cemetery officials said if people file a police report, they will replace the stolen items through insurance.
"I went to the monument place across the street," said Blimling. "And they range anywhere from about 300 and I've seen as much as 750 plus."
Blimling said if the thieves were to sell they cups, they wouldn't get much cash. "Meet me on the street, I'll give you a couple of bucks."
A message he hopes will keep trouble away, so he can focus on the memories that no one can steal. "I remember him, I'll always remember him."
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers, 402-444-STOP (7867).
