Family Confirms Man in Morning Fire has Died

OMAHA (KPTM)- Omaha police and firefighters battled a house fire in North Omaha Thursday morning, but the investigation doesn't stop there.

Police were originally called to the home near 33rd and Ernst to investigate an assault.

A witness in the area told Fox 42 that he saw a woman screaming outside of the home. They said she was naked and covered in blood shortly before the fire broke out. Firefighters say her face was covered in soot.


The elderly woman, 76- Year- Old Elizabeth Vasholz, was taken to a Lincoln hospital in critical condition. Her husband, Raymond Vasholz,  was pulled from the fire and taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition. Family members tell FOX 42 he has since passed away from his injuries.

One daughter of the couple was also a victim in the Von Maur shooting of 2007.


Police arrested one person who is being questioned in the case.
