OMAHA (KPTM) - An early morning fight ends with one man stabbed to death in a South Omaha neighborhood.
Police have 23-year-old Anthony Utterback in custody. He faces charges of second -degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Police say 24-year-old Ryan O'Donnell was stabbed outside of a home near 40th and Y streets just after 12 AM Friday. O'Donnell was taken to the hospital where he died.
Neighbors say O'Donnell was quiet and kept to himself. They describe the neighborhood as peaceful with only minor crimes. "Just a few minor thefts here and there, car batteries and things like that," said neighbor Gary Lewis.
The scene Friday morning was shocking to neighbors. "There's all kind of cop cars coming around, and I thought ‘wow, it's more than somebody just having a heart attack'," Lewis said.
One neighbor says she heard a commotion with someone banging on the door for O'Donnell to come outside. When the fight ended after only a couple of minutes, she said she didn't bother to check what was going on.
Family of O'Donnell said they do not know if the two knew each other.
County Attorney Don Kleine said Utterback was in the hospital Friday for a leg injury. He will be in court next week.
