WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Dental Association today announced the availability of a new video providing a comprehensive view of the community dental health coordinator (CDHC) project. The video is available on ADA.org and YouTube. It features interviews with educators, CDHCs and clinic personnel, and shows the CDHCs working in a variety of underserved urban, rural and Native American communities.

The CDHC is a dental team member whose primary functions are oral health education, disease prevention, and helping patients in need of care navigate the system to secure and keep appointments with dentists. The ADA's CDHC pilot project began in 2006, with the final group of students completing their training last year. Today 34 CDHCs are working in 26 communities in seven states.

The video gives an overview of this ADA initiative, showing how the CDHC provides better oral health to those at-risk individuals who need it most.
