For those travelers whose weekend plans (or weekday for that matter) include traveling between Boston and Maine anytime between now and May 9, the Amtrak Downeaster has a great opportunity. The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) is excited to announce The Reel Experience Video Challenge. This promotion offers travelers the opportunity to document their experience riding the train between Maine and Boston for a chance to win prizes, including a $1,000 cash prize!
With the Reel Experience Video Challenge, NNEPRA is asking Amtrak Downeaster riders to videotape and/or photograph their Downeaster travel experience onboard and in the station communities to create a 2- to 2.5-minute video. Heading to Boston for a Bruins game? Popping up to Freeport for a shopping excursion? Take the train, video the experience and enter to win. A total of four prizes will be awarded. Two Grand Prize winners - one for northbound travel and one for southbound travel - will each be awarded $1,000 plus two round-trip tickets between Brunswick, Maine, and Washington, D.C. on Amtrak Trains. The Student Prize for college students will consist of $500, two round-trip tickets between Brunswick, Maine, and Washington, D.C. on Amtrak Trains and a GoPro® HERO3 White edition camera*. The People's Choice prize, to be voted on by the public on the Amtrak Downeaster website, will include $500, two round-trip tickets between Brunswick, Maine, and Washington, D.C. on Amtrak Trains and a GoPro® HERO3 White edition camera*.
Video submissions are due by 12 noon on May 9, 2013. Voting will take place May 29 through June 16, 2013, and winners will be announced on June 17, 2013. NNEPRA will own the rights to all submitted footage and may use some of the material in upcoming marketing and promotional campaigns.

About the Downeaster
The Amtrak Downeaster makes five round-trips daily between Portland, ME and Boston, MA serving 8 communities in between: Old Orchard Beach (seasonal), Saco and Wells, Maine; Dover, Durham-UNH and Exeter, NH; Haverhill and Woburn, MA. In Fall 2012, the Amtrak Downeaster began making two round-trips daily between Brunswick, ME and Boston, MA, which include stops in Freeport and all other Downeaster Stations. The Downeaster has experienced record-breaking ridership for the past 7 years, and has more than doubled since 2005, exceeding 528,000 riders in FY2012. Fiscal 2013 year- to-date ridership is 9.1% greater than last year.
