Firefighters finally declared the fire under control around noon.
At first, firefighters tried to put it out from the inside, but were forced to call a mayday and pull out when the roof collapsed. Two firefighters were trapped, but managed to get out. They were treated at the scene and released.
The Omaha Fire Department says 24 units were destroyed, affecting 30 residents.
The American Red Cross and Salvation Army are there to assist.
The smoke was visible from miles away.
