OMAHA (KPTM) - The family of three men arrested last week after a disturbance near 33rd and Seward last week filed an official complaint with the Omaha Police Department against officers involved Sunday afternoon.
Sheree Johnson says police officers knocked her over while she was sitting in her wheelchair after they chased her nephew into her home. She was taken to the hospital.
Octavius Johnson and his brothers Juaquez and Demetrius, were arrested.
Police say Octavius Johnson resisted arrest and tried to obstruct officers towing his car for expired registration. In a video recorded by a neighbor, he is seen being pulled to the ground by his neck.
After a brief protest Sunday afternoon outside police headquarters, Sharon and other family members went inside. Protesters that followed, chanted, "no justice, no peace!"
Sharon filed an official complaint with the department against officers who were involved.
The group of 50 people demanded the city hire a Police Auditor.
Demonstrators said if the Omaha Police Department and Mayor Jim Suttle want to regain the community's trust, bringing back a position that oversees how officers do their jobs would be the first step.
A video recorded by a neighbor Thursday shows an Omaha police officer pull Octavius Johnson to the ground. The officer is seen punching Johnson.
Johnson's younger brother Juaquez is seen yelling at the officer in the street. He is then escorted by another officer to the sidewalk across the street.
Juaquez is then seen recording the officers with a cell phone, still yelling at officers. The second officer returns, and walks towards Juaquez, who retreats back to the front yard of his home.
When the officer returns to the other officers and Octavius, you can Juaquez return back to the sidewalk across the street. This time, he has a cell phone out, pointed at the group. He can be heard yelling, "that's abuse!" several times.
The second officer is then seen speaking into a radio on his shoulder. 30 seconds later, sirens are heard, and the officer walks to a police cruiser parked across the street. Two other cruisers pull up, and Juaquez runs back to his house.
At that moment, the officer chases him into his house, and five other officers follow. Shortly after, at about 2:56 into the video, the first officer is seen raising his head up and then can be seen punching Octavius several times.
Five more officers then arrive less than a minute later, and help take Octavius into custody.
