OMAHA (KPTM)- A fake photo -
posted on Facebook is hurting an Omaha
The photo is of a dead mouse in Chinese takeout. In the post someone claimed it was from food at Great Dragon off 34th and L.
“I first heard it from a few customers who called in saying their a bit concerned about this problem they saw on Facebook and then the next day one of our loyal customers came by and actually gave us the pages from Facebook,” Shu He Lin said.
Dr. Adam Tyma is a social media expert and professor of communication at UNO. He says this isn’t the first time he’s seen the photo. He said it’s a hoax.
“I think this one is in Kentucky, I think I saw it show up in Florida, Lancaster Pennsylvania also showed up.”
The manager of Great Dragon says they’ve actually lost business because of it.
“A lot less foot traffic in the store ever since the picture was posted on Facebook.”
The health department received several calls regarding the photo. It says it investigated and that the restaurant has met the necessary standards to be operating.
“Trust me it’s safe to eat here. Still come in, enjoy the food. I assure you you’ll be safe, we have no rat problems here at all.”
Dr. Tyma encourages people to question what they see online.
“When you see things like this come across they might be funny, they might be humorous, just don’t re-tweet them, don’t automatically like them, don’t automatically share them, take two seconds and think about what you are actually doing.”
Great Dragon has
been open since 1994. The health
department rated it fair this month. Again, it says a
mouse was never found in the restaurant's food.
If you stop in at the restaurant this week and mention this story, the manager says he will give a 10% discount.
