Omaha (KPTM) – A north Omaha family finds bullets lodged in their floor after police finish investigating a break in.

Steve Erelwin lay in bed watching the Spurs game last night when two men wearing masks crashed through his bedroom door leading outside.

"I thought there was a tornado or something," Erelwin said.

Rex the family dog came into the room but was shot by the smaller of the two men.

They moved past the bedroom into other parts of the home.

Janet Erelwin told their daughter to lock her room and call 9-1-1.

"He threw me down to the ground," said Janet, "and told me if I didn't shut up I was going to be killed."

The man also grabbed her by the throat.

"I go out and this guys beating on my wife, so I pull him off of her," Steve said.  "He nicks me a little bit.  Makes me bleed a little bit on my cheek."

Police arrived at their home near 30th and King streets just after 10:30.

No one was found.

Steve and Jane Erelwin describe the intruders as black men, wearing masks over their faces.

Rex the 9-month-old dog is being treated for a fractured front right leg.  He is expected to make a full recovery.
