PLATTSMOUTH (KPTM) - Lightning strikes, fierce wind, downed trees and power outages.

All of the above happened Sunday afternoon in the city of Plattsmouth south of Bellevue.  Residents Fox 42 News spoke to say it all took place quickly catching them off guard.  One homeowner even had his truck badly damaged when a tree toppled on top of it.

"The wind picked up and I heard a big crack and I looked outside and saw a tree on top of my truck," said Mark Joslin of Plattsmouth.

That wasn't the only damage Sunday afternoon.

Near 42nd Street and Highway 66 a lightning strike ignited a small house fire rattling the nerves of the two people living inside.  Emergency responders told us the fire broke out in the attic.  Fortunately, nobody was hurt and the flames were quickly doused.

"I looked out the window and I saw smoke," recalled Randy Keeler.  "I ran out with an umbrella and it was pouring and hailing at that time and the house was just starting to ignite."

Emergency personnel says Keeler's home is still livable.

Residents of the Plattsmouth area say once the storms pass they'll begin to pick up the pieces.
