Storms A Close Call For CWS Opening Ceremonies

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM) - Severe weather is no stranger to the College World Series, as the opening ceremonies were canceled last year. This year, storms made the decision to go ahead a very close call.

Opening ceremonies kicked off at 8:30 at TD Ameritrade Park. The celebration was in full swing all day at Fan Fest to kick off the 63rd year of the College World Series in Omaha.

A lot of work went into the day, to prepare for tens of thousands of fans, and severe weather.

Weather can change here in Nebraska. Faster than shaved ice can melt, says Susie Robison, who runs a booth outside the stadium. "Minute by minute–we get the hourly forecast to find out yeah where we are at," she says, "and what's going on as far as the radar."

Fan Fest runs until the Series is over. Game one starts Saturday at 2pm.

NCAA officials say if a game you are planning to attend is canceled due to the weather, hold on to your ticket and parking pass, because you will need those when the game is rescheduled.
