Creighton Killings; Garcia Affidavit Released

Posted: Updated:

Update: Garcia was booked into the Douglas County Jail Thursday evening.

OMAHA (KPTM) – Police investigators said they know where Dr. Anthony Garica was on the day the Brumbacks were killed. Police say Garcia is responsible for the Creighton Killings. Police said Garcia killed Dr. Roger Brumback and his wife Mary in May of 2013. They also say he killed Thomas Hunter and Shirlee Sherman. All have a connection with the Creighton University Medical Center.

The affidavit says detectives found multiple similarities between the killings. They say they found proof that Garcia purchased a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter handgun in Indiana just two weeks before the Brumbacks were killed. Detectives also say at the Brumback residence they found broken pieces and a magazine matching the same handgun.

Surveillance photos released by the Omaha Police Department show Garcia was in Omaha for less than five hours. They say he was at the Casey's General Store in Council Bluffs at 12:38 p.m. The last time anyone spoke with the Brumbacks was over the Internet at 1:36 p.m.

Investigators say Garcia used his credit card at the Wing Stop near 71st and Pacific Street. The manager of the store said police told him they are still trying to figure out if Garcia ate at the restaurant before or after going to the Brumback's house.

Additionally, phone records show an incoming call to Garcia's cell phone at 5:18 P.M. Cell towers in Atlantic, Iowa traced Garcia there. Atlantic is one hour from Omaha. Investigators told Fox 42 News the timeline and the handgun provides evidence that links  Garcia to the Crimes.

Douglas Country Attorney Don Kleine said Garcia faces eight felony counts; four for first-degree murder, three for use of a weapon to commit a felony and one for use of a firearm to commit a felony. Garcia waived extradition in Illinois; he arrived in Omaha at the Douglas County Jail Thursday evening.
