OMAHA (KPTM)- Google street view gives users a 3D experience—from their own neighborhood to the other side of the world. Well, now Google is expanding that experience from an outside view to indoors.
"Instead of just seeing a map on the side of Google, they now see photos, a map and an option to see inside," said Joe Diril.
Diril is a certified Google trusted photographer. Google hired independent photographers, like Diril, to generate its new project.
"My main challenge is educating people that this exists and that I'm the guy that can, you know, help you with it," said Diril.
Diril takes pictures inside businesses for a negotiated fee. Then, those pictures are composed to create the virtual tour. Diril said it takes about a week to get the photos corrected, edited and stitch them all together.
"It gives the viewers or your customers that much more of a comfort to come to you for business," said Diril.
The new project has been growing across the country for about a year. Not only can you take the virtual tour from you computer, you're also able to do it right from your phone or any mobile device.
"You click it, you go right indoors," said Diril. He continued, "It's really cool and I think it's going to be pretty big once it gets out there."
FOX 42 is the first news media in Nebraska to have its virtual tour online. Diril said once the tour is uploaded, there are no additional fees.
