Logan, IA (KPTM)- In an unexpected move, the Logan, Iowa City Council will vote for a sixth time on a request to keep chickens at a Logan home. The chickens are used for autism therapy by 21 year old Savannah Johnson.
The council, including a variance vote, denied the request five times.
"I went to the ACLU and the Iowa Civil Rights Commission for help," said Samantha Johnson, Savannah's mother.
Johnson forwarded a letter from the commission along with 80 pages of material to the city council which decided to vote on the issue on Monday.
The Johnson family received emails and phone calls from families across the country including a boy in Florida who uses chickens for successful autism therapy, much like Savannah Johnson does. They were all in support of the Johnson's quest to keep the chickens. Currently chickens are not allowed in Logan city limits.
