OMAHA (KPTM) - A Douglas County judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Omaha Fire Union asking for a temporary injunction on Mayor Jean Stothert's budget.
The union asked for a delay because it says the fire contract in the budget puts public safety at risk.
District Court Judge James Gleason says it is too soon to rule on the budget since it has not yet been passed.
Gleason did say in his ruling that there is evidence Mayor Stothert's current budget could have an effect on firefighter safety.
Mayor Stothert released a statement shortly after the ruling was released.
She says, "we are pleased with the decision," and added, "not only do we agree that the Fire Union's action was premature, we did not think there was any merit to the allegations. We will continue to manage the City to best serve the citizens of Omaha in a fiscally responsible manner."
